Parking
Parking is available for free at the Capitol Center complex, thanks to R&R Realty, at 400 E Court! Street parking is also available throughout the East Village and it's free! America! We only ask that you park north of Court Ave, as shown below. There will be no parking available at Peace Tree.
Packet Pickup
Packet pickup will be at Peace Tree Brewing Co (317 E Court, Des Moines) from 3-8pm on Wednesday 7/3 and 7-8:30am on Thursday (RACE DAY!) at Peace Tree. You will receive your race bag, socks, timing chip and bib number. If you didn't purchase a shirt during registration, they'll also be available during packet pickup! We strongly encourage you to pick up your packet on Wednesday!
If you have a conflict, you can have a friend or family member pick up your packet for you. If someone else is picking up your packet, THEY MUST BRING US THIS FORM (click on the link to download the form)! Please make sure it's printed off, signed and they have a copy of your ID, either digital or printed. This will help packet pickup run smoothly.
Big Acai Bowls will be serving up delicious breakfast treats before and after the race so bring a few extra dollars to enjoy and replenish all of the calories you left on the streets of Downtown Des Moines!
Costume Contest
We'll do the costume contest just before the start of the run! Show us your most patriotic get ups! We'll give away prizes for the three best costumes based on the crowd approval!
Chip Timing
All runners will be provided a timing chip. Your timing chip will be attached to bib. You will be timed according to your chip or net time.
The bib chip cannot be folded, pinned or bent in any way for it to record your time correctly. We cannot guarantee an accurate time if your bib chip is damaged in any way.
Safety
There are multiple aspects of safety to be aware of for DSM Firecracker 5K. Watch the weather on the day of the race. If it is 85 degrees, do not wear your winter coat to run in. Drink plenty of water. Don’t hesitate to stop at the aid station!
The course is on pavement and traffic will be controlled by Des Moines Police, but please we aware of what is under your feet, ahead of you and around as you run.
BOOZE. Please be smart about drinking. We want everyone to have fun and we are not here to be anybody’s parents. Please do not take any alcohol with you on course We will take it away if we see it. We highly recommend not drinking at Peace Tree or anywhere else before you run. Save yourself until the finish, then you can indulge.
